Who Am I?

Hi! My name is Nura Shadid, (Noo-rah, she/her). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with teens and adults who need support in managing anxiety, depression as well as overcoming relationship difficulties, identity and self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions.I also have a focus in Arab-American, Muslim and first generation mental health. I am a first generation Palestinian-Muslim, and that experience has shaped my view and understanding of the systems and structures that oppress the most marginalized of us. As an intersectional feminist, I am working towards unlearning the teachings of the patriarchy and white supremacy, and assisting people in identifying how these impact our daily lives.

I love working with:

  • Teens with anxiety and depression
  • Adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, and just getting through life with someone to walk beside through this journey

Some of my favorite approaches include:

Talking things out, challenging you and asking deep difficult questions, understanding and establishing boundaries that make sense to you and your values, learning to communicate, identify and express feelings and respectfully challenging your thinking patterns. You are the one in charge, and I am walking alongside to provide you with the support you need. One size does not fit all, however I use person centered, and narrative style orientations to navigate sessions.

HOW I HELP

I believe that the relationship we form in the office is the most important piece to therapy and I want to ensure we create a safe space so that you feel supported, empowered and understood. Throughout our lives we have created tools to help us survive and learn to navigate the world around us. Sometimes those tools no longer serve us. I will walk with you through whatever it is you may be experiencing. I hope that the strength of our relationship empowers you to create change. Change is not linear, and no two sessions will be the same. You are the main focus in the sessions, as I hope to learn more about you through understanding your unique and special life story.

I believe In...

  • I believe therapy can be a powerful, life-changing experience; I would feel honored to join you along your journey.
  • I believe that you are simply amazingI believe therapy works best when we feel supported and connected to our therapist, and that it will be really scary at first, but as we connect and create a trusting honest relationship, there is no stopping us!I
  • I believe change is possible with a little help from our friends and community.

What it’s like in a session with me

I like to start the session off with your topic of choice, just because I am the professional, it does not mean I know more about you, well, than YOU. I want sessions to feel like two humans, connecting and creating change and understanding. Some sessions may be more light hearted and others may be more difficult and feel more heavy. Just know that therapy, and self-discovery is a process, and one that I am so honored to be a part of. I use humor often, and want to create a space that you feel safe and honored in. I want to ensure you feel comfortable in sessions, and can express your feelings and thoughts freely with no judgment.

More about me

I’d say I’ve become more intentional about my time lately. I often prefer to be alone when I want to reset and recharge. However, I do enjoy spending time with my family and friends connecting over food and shared experiences. I enjoy going on small trips to surrounding states, and exploring different hiking trails. In the summer, I love to garden and take pride in growing different vegetables and raising my indoor plants. When I am in the space to be creative, you can find me learning how to create Palestinian Embroidery (tatreez) or tinkering with my camera and creating photo shoots for my friends and family. I love to have a good laugh, especially at my own expense! Many clients make fun of me for being so disconnected from tv shows and movies, so if you’re referencing a show/movie, don’t be surprised if I have a confused look on my face. I can’t wait to connect!
