GET TO KNOW your therapist

NURA SHADID, LCSW

Hey there, I’m Nura Shadid!

I am a clinical social worker who works with teens, young adults and adults who need support in managing anxiety, depression as well as overcoming relationship difficulties, identity and self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions. I also have a focus in Arab-American, Muslim and first generation mental health.

HOW I HELP

I believe that the relationship we form in the office is the most important piece to therapy. I want to ensure we create a safe space so that you feel supported, empowered and understood. I will walk with you through whatever it is you may be experiencing. I hope that the strength of our relationship empowers you to create change. Change is not linear, and no two sessions will be the same. You are the main focus in the sessions, as I hope to learn more about you through understanding your unique and special life story. We will work together to understand and create awareness to help heal difficult and painful life experiences. Therapy can be a powerful, life-changing experience; I would feel honored to join you along your journey.

Creating a safe, caring, non-judgmental environment

I want to ensure you feel comfortable in sessions, and can express your feelings and thoughts freely with no judgment in order to explore yourself. As for my teen clients, I want to make sure you feel heard and understood, as well as comfortable speaking freely with no judgment.

Asking for help

Therapy can often be scary to some, especially when people have negative stigmas for seeking outside help. I am here to let you know that it can be tough learning to trust another person, but I believe therapy is a collaborative process and will be dedicated in walking through your journey with you as we find creative ways to fit your specific needs. I approach therapy with a very eclectic, I understand first and foremost how society and external systems impact our day to day life, as well as how life experiences and environment plays a major role in our relationships and struggles.

MORE ABOUT ME

I love to spend time with my family and friends, but I also love to spend time alone. In the summer, I love to garden and take pride in growing different vegetables and raising my indoor plants. When I am in the space to be creative, you can find me learning how to create Palestinian Embroidery (tatreez) or tinkering with my camera and creating photo shoots for my friends and family. I love to have a good laugh, especially at my own expense.
