Hello! My name is Nora and I am a Licensed Social Worker who works with children, adolescents, and adults. As a queer, fat woman, I approach therapy with a deep sense of empathy. I work from a foundation of liberation and a belief in the resilience in all of us. Reaching out for help can carry a stigma, and I do my best to support each client in leaving their reservations at the door and digging deep into the process of creating a life worth living.
I believe that each client requires a unique combination of approaches suited to fit them best. I work from a place that employs traditional talk therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic practices, person-centered therapy, strengths- based approaches, mindfulness, and creative therapies. In general, I see the therapeutic relationship as collaborative, so if there are modalities you are curious about or feel might work for you that I haven’t listed, we can find ways to utilize them together.
I support my clients on a basis of mutual respect and unconditional positive regard. As your therapist I will support you, validate you, challenge you to grow, and be a person you can trust to be vulnerable with. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, the notion that healing is a complex and nonlinear process, and the strengths and resilience of each individual client. Together, we can collaborate on building a future for yourself that feels exciting and fulfilling.
I believe in the liberation of all people, and approach each client as an individual worthy of dignity, respect, empathy, and care. I understand the importance of identity and see intersectionality as essential in understanding our needs.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship should be collaborative, and that every person should have a say in their treatment.
I have been described as an upbeat and welcoming therapist who isn’t afraid to dig deeper. At the start of sessions, I will engage you in goal setting activities to collaborate on the work we will do together. These will guide your treatment, but every session can look different! It’s important to me to be flexible and make room to discuss whatever has been weighing on you. I encourage you to get comfortable both physically and emotionally in session. I tend to be informal and want to aid in making the space feel safe for you, however that looks. You can expect me to be open, honest, non-judgemental, and trustworthy.
When I am not working, I love to spend time with my partner, exploring all of Chicago’s neighborhoods, eating good food, and attending creative events. I love to craft and journal, and have dipped my toes into all kinds of creative pursuits like knitting, pottery, painting and writing. I am a big fan of competition reality tv, so on any given day you might find me watching old seasons of Survivor. I love comedy and have a background in writing and performance.
