Hi! My name is Leah Donahue, and I’m a licensed clinical social worker who loves working with adults, teens and couples. I identify as a cisgender Asian woman. Everyone needs help sometimes, and it can be scary to take the steps to reach out for help. Congratulations on taking that first step! Whether it’s a major life transition or feeling overwhelmed by daily stress, everyone can use a helping hand.
DBT, CBT, ERP, EFT
(Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Emotionally Focused Therapy)
I’m a huge believer in the saying “getting comfortable with the uncomfortable” and that is embodied by my love of ERP treatment for anxiety related issues and just about any emotions that are scary to cope with. That also goes for EFT. I love using EFT to get to the primary emotions in order to help clients understand the unseen messages their emotions may be hiding. I love utilizing DBT and CBT to help clients identify and track patterns of behavior in order to change behaviors that may be maladaptive.
I am a huge proponent of creating a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment that helps facilitate your “aha!” moment in therapy: that breakthrough moment when you begin to realize the root causes of your distress and when you begin to understand yourself better. I also understand that you are not defined by the problems you bring into therapy. You are so much more than the problems you face, and I hope to celebrate and highlight your strengths in our work together. I try to nurture the whole person by promoting mindfulness, creating a judgement-free environment, using cognitive-behavioral techniques, and actively listening to you. Together, we will work to define and achieve your goals so you can become the best possible version of you!
A typical session with me starts off like greeting an old friend, if the mood is right I’ll be cracking jokes, commenting on your outfit or asking how your fur baby is doing! Cozy lighting and therapeutic smells are my favorite way to create a safe space for all. We’ll definitely go off on goofy tangents at times, but we’ll also dig deeper into topics that you’ve wanted to address but just needed someone like me to help you through it.
In my free time, I really enjoy cooking and eating out at new restaurants. I love learning about different cultures and my favorite way is through food. I can literally spend hours at international food markets! In addition, I really like traveling and getting to see people living life in a different way than me.
