Who Am I?

My name is Julie W. Zimmerman

I am honored to walk along side individuals and couples (18 to 60 plus) as they do their sacred work to become more of who they are meant to be! I am passionate about helping people “get into better relationships with themselves”. This journey becomes exponential as a healthier “you” impacts your key relationships in all arenas.

I love working with:

  • Mood disorders such as anxiety and depression
  • Relational conflict with couples or in the context of work, family members (siblings, parent to son or daughter, boss to employee, etc).
  • Marriage or partner counseling (how to build healthy relationship with each other including “fair fighting” skills, in law challenges, money issues, sexual expectations, combined families, basic communication guidelines).
  • I love working with couples, especially, in helping them build a better relationship with “self” and then each other. We get more training in “driver’s education” than knowing how to navigate a healthy relationship with our selves and our partner by exploring “attachment styles, love languages, conflict styles, conflict resolution, family of origin influences, etc.

Some of my favorite approaches include:

My most successful approaches are in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic therapy (family of origin influence), I have an eclectic style employ g whatever fits for the person/s I work with.

HOW I HELP

I love assisting clients with their subconscious and often, unexplored beliefs that can get in the way of higher functioning living. Once outdated beliefs are gently examined and explored, the benefits are feeling more confident and at peace with one’s self.

I love the expression “laughter is the best medicine”…therapy can be challenging and tough sometimes and so appropriate use of a panacea often makes the process easier.

Beliefs section

I believe people are tremendously influenced by family belief systems (explicit and implicit) many of which worked and many which did not, causing people to get “stuck” in their varying roles, in “outdated beliefs” that no longer serves one’s self.

Once one can embrace what currently aligns with one’s own value system, and can seek to “let go” of what no longer serves you, you are much more free to experience inner contentment.

What it’s like in a session with me

I am very welcoming and warm. It’s important to feel comfortable which helps so much with the therapy process. Trust takes time to build and I honor the time it takes you share the things you want to explore. I ask that you come with “what you want to work on” in session and we will go from there at your pace.

More about me

I love to read. Usually, I have something on audio and a hard copy book. The first word out of my mouth as a child was usually “why”, so I am curious about many things and love to learn about other cultures and frequently travel to accomplish this. Also, I love to stay fit with Pickleball and anything that helps me connect better to my physical self. Friends and family are a priority and make time to sustain these relationships. I love to laugh!
