Who Am I?

Hello! I am John (he/they) and I’m a Licensed Social Worker who works with teens and adults. If life is feeling heavy, then I’d love to help you grow stronger or make things lighter. I’m ready to meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, and walk alongside you as you figure out where you want to go.

I love working with:

  • Teens and adults with anxiety and depression
  • Queer and Neurodivergent Folk
  • People Pleasing / Boundary Setting
  • PTSD and Trauma

Some of my favorite approaches include:

I utilize a mix of CBT, psychodynamics, strengths-based therapy, and a liberation framework to adapt treatment to the unique needs of each individual that I see. I also supplement talk therapies with skills like mindfulness and somatic-experiencing to create a holistic therapeutic approach.

HOW I HELP

One of the most important things I can offer you is a space where you are comfortable being yourself. In our work together, you’re free to show up messy, complicated, and honest, because that’s where real growth begins. From there, we can explore your relationship with yourself and your environment to see what works and what doesn’t. Together we’ll try new things, work through setbacks, and celebrate your growth.

Beliefs section

I believe that the intersection of our identities, culture, and background are inseparable from our mental health and that effective therapy is able to explore that dynamic. Each person is worthy of empathy, compassion, and respect.

Therapy gets a reputation for being somber…and it can be. I believe that therapy is much more, too. It can be serious and playful. Happy and sad. Energizing and exhausting. Come as you are, because there is no “right” way to be in therapy.

What it’s like in a session with me

You’ll probably notice that I always have hot tea with me at all times. I can’t get enough. I fill my space with small things that keep me comfortable and I encourage you to do the same. Use the space to stretch, fidget, or snack – whatever you need! It’s easier to work through your challenges when you’re comfortable.

Early on in therapy, I’m very curious and I want to know all about you and your environment. Afterwards, I like to collaborate with you on goals and how we might achieve them. From there, the therapy can get more or less structured depending on your needs. We can be creative and learn new tricks, work to develop discipline, or change paths entirely depending on your evolving needs.

More about me

If you spot me on the train, then it’s likely that I’m scrolling through Wikipedia to learn more about how world history has unfolded into our present time. This curiosity for world history leads me to learn about foods from all over the world and I love making those dishes in my own kitchen. I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons once per week for over 10 years and will talk your ear off about it if you give me the chance. I really enjoy playing basketball and you are allowed to tease me for being VERY bad at it.
