Who Am I?

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with well over a decade of experience working in community mental health. I consider myself a conduit for my clients’ healing and growth but I recognize that it is the client who is doing the real work. Our therapeutic relationship will include love, support, a sense of humor, and gentle challenges. I work from a narrative perspective and much of our time will be spent exploring patterns, relationships, and stories from your life. I am a Caucasian, cis/het married woman.

I love working with:

Adults and teens who are struggling with life transitions and interpersonal challenges. I love being a part of a person’s recovery from trauma and abuse. I have a special interest in working with people who have identified chronic disorganization and/or hoarding problems in their lives, although I am new to helping in this area.

Some of my favorite approaches include:

Narrative, CBT, DBT, “nerd therapy”, being direct when necessary.

HOW I HELP

I believe in you. If a person has decided that they want therapy, chances are, they can face whatever comes up in a session. I believe that, though our work might be hard, it will be worth it. I know that a person who has experienced significant trauma and hardship will be able to move forward into a thriving and successful life. I have had a variety of career paths and jobs in my life and I am very comfortable exploring both failure and success.

What it’s like in a session with me

I want you to be comfortable and as relaxed as possible. Whether we meet in person or virtually, I hope that the therapeutic space is a safe space for you. I like to draw parallels between real life challenges and the stories that we read in books and see on TV and movies (you can expect me to mention the following: INSIDE OUT, ENCANTO, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, X-FILES, STAR WARS, STAR TREK, DOCTOR WHO, the MCU, etc, as well as the whole hero’s journey that we all take.) And I want to hear what stories keep you inspired and motivated. I want to know what you enjoy and feel passionate about.

Our primary focus will be on what has brough you to therapy and what you want to work on but I know that there are many paths to these goals. As Tolkien said, “Not all who wander are lost.” So, we might wander a bit but we will wander together.

More about me

In my free time, I enjoy reading, sewing, riding my bike, and diving into pop culture (especially fantasy/scifi.) My ideal day off would include brunch with a mimosa, a new movie, and a stop at Joann Fabrics or a thrift store. I like winter more than summer and I love living in Chicago.
