Who Am I?

Hi! I am Helen (she/hers), and I am a licensed social worker that works with teens and adults. I take a holistic approach to therapy, helping people work through challenges and live their best lives. I believe that everyone is the expert on their own lives and that, as a therapist, I get the opportunity to walk alongside clients, providing support, coping strategies, and a safe judgment-free space to explore. If you are looking for a laid-back space to explore your feelings, behavioral patterns, and traumas while building new coping skills and healthy patterns, we’d be a great fit! I am a cis-gendred, white, queer woman.

I love working with:

  • Teens and adults dealing with stress and anxiety
  • Young adults struggling with life’s transitions
  • People who are struggling with their feelings and emotional responses
  • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Those who are struggling to balance everything that life throws at them

Some of my favorite approaches include:

My therapeutic approach is based in collaboration first and foremost. I use a number of different approaches, including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and, of course, talk therapy. I don’t believe that treatment is a one-size-fits-all approach. I always work to tailor my approach to each person’s situation, preferences, and goals. I am always working to expand my clinical knowledge and welcome requests to try new approaches and modalities.

HOW I HELP

As a therapist, I work with you to create an environment in which you can express your whole, authentic self while working through your current struggles. I encourage you to express your emotions openly and honestly. I work with you where you are at, highlighting strengths and positive patterns, and working to modify or get rid of things that are no longer serving you. I also like to uplift the fact that we all live our lives connected to many other people, organizations, and systems that affect every aspect of our lives. I hold space for the ways systems of oppression and marginalization affect our mental health.

Beliefs section

I believe that every person is the expert on their own life. We are capable of more than we give ourselves credit for. I am here to work with you and support your healing and growth journey.

What it’s like in a session with me

Therapy with me is laid back and direct. I like to work to create a safe space where you can feel free to be your true self without fear of judgment. Throughout our first few sessions, I like to work to get to know you as a person beyond your current mental health challenges. It is important to me that we work together to develop treatment goals that feel important and reachable. However, I recognize that life can be chaotic and am always willing to hold space for new issues, big or small. I also make sure to celebrate wins and uplift what is going well for you. For me, the therapy is a collaborative process in that I always encourage feedback and new ideas. This is your space, and I want you to feel like you have the power to shape how sessions are run. While therapy can get heavy, I also work hard to make sure you leave the space feeling safe and grounded.

More about me

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and cat. I tend to be more of a nerdy homebody, enjoying video games, movies, knitting, and just hanging out. I am also a PNW woman at heart and love to spend time in nature, even if that is just sitting at my local park for a few minutes every day looking at the birds and trees. I love all things cute, and you’ll definitely be able to spy some trinkets, keychains, and stickers on my bag or in my office.
