Who Am I?

Hello! I am Emily Hernandez (She/Her). I identify as a cis-gender first generation Mexican-American. I’m a Licensed Social Worker with experience working in schools and medical settings; I am a therapist that enjoys working with teens and adults. I believe in a client centered approach and defining therapy in a way that best suits you and your goals.

  • Teens and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression or other mood disorders Immigrant populations 

  • Individuals who want to explore interpersonal relationships, relationship issues, and boundaries

My approach emphasizes building a positive therapeutic relationship that is client centered. I do not believe therapy is a one-size-fits-all so I tend to pull from a variety of methods including, but not limited to, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. 

HOW I HELP

As a therapist, it starts with creating a safe therapeutic environment for you and I. I provide a non-judgemental space where you will feel comfortable and supported while still enabling you to grow. I believe growth at times can be uncomfortable and challenging but I am there to work together as a team to navigate those feelings. I welcome and invite your feedback to help structure our sessions so that they feel most meaningful for you.

What it’s like in a session with me

A session with me will vary from person to person. I provide a comfortable space where you can be yourself. We can navigate that day’s, week’s or month’s emotions, experiences and everything in between. We might find ourselves having a laugh but I will always make space for any tears. I may ask a lot of questions at first; as our therapeutic relationship develops I hope that you can see me as someone who is supportive but also here to gently challenge you towards your goals.

Outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and sharing meals with friends or family. They will often find me cooking some of my favorite foods I grew up with such as pozole or tinga. I enjoy hitting the gym in my free time or going on a run when it’s nice outside. On a day in, you’ll find me watching a random romcom, reading a book, or playing PC games. Oh, and live music! Something about being in a room full of people enjoying the same music feels good.
