Who Am I?

Hi! My name is Dana Rivera (she/her/hers).


I am a cisgendered, white female clinical therapist at Urban Wellness who works with clients who are 10+. I like to think of myself as a skill builder, insight facilitator, and personal guide through life’s transitions. Life is hard; there’s no easy way to put it. We all need support from time to time and I hope that I can be a consistent support system for my clients throughout the journey that is the therapy process!

Some of my favorite approaches include:

I am a very eclectic therapist! The most important thing to me in therapy is tailoring therapy to each client which might mean utilizing different modalities and techniques that fit your life and your vibe! I tend to lean more towards CBT and Compassion Focused Therapy techniques. I enjoy creating a foundation of core change which I believe happens through enhancing self awareness, self care, self compassion, and self love. By being curious enough to understand our ‘Why’ the path on how to get to where you want to go will become illuminated.

HOW I HELP

I believe every human being is their own unique self and needs to be understood and seen. I choose to use a multitude of techniques and modalities to fit your specific needs; tailoring coping techniques to you and your life. I am direct but down to earth. Part of therapy is asking tough questions and looking at things that we might have avoided in our life due to fear; so you can expect some of these tough questions from me! I strongly believe the way we think impacts the way we move through the world so I spend time with clients working on self compassion development. When we are kind to ourselves, life tends to feel a bit more manageable. I will be your cheerleader and remind you of your incredible growth along the way; reminding you that the little changes matter just as much as the larger scale changes!

I Believe...

I believe when any human being is ready to make changes in their lives, then it is exactly when change is meant to occur. I believe change is always possible. I believe therapy works best when you are ready to step into discomfort; remembering life can be tough and messy! I believe no one knows you better than you; in sessions you are the expect. I believe together, we can cultivate the change you are looking for!

What it’s like in a session with me

I always tell my clients that if they were to meet me outside of therapy versus inside of therapy sessions you would see the exact same person …. Well maybe a more disheveled me when I am just at home with my kids lol but the essence of who I am is the same. I feel being my authentic self is the way my clients will feel connection and that trust is formed. I will ask you to share with me whatever you are comfortable sharing; emphasizing I am here to meet you where you are at. I will focus on listening and with your permission, ask more clarifying questions to better understand your experiences. I truly feel sessions with me become like having coffee with a friend; they can be fun and lighthearted; laughter is such good medicine! Clients may find themselves venting and sharing their frustrations or being in their safe space to let the weight of the world they are carrying around out; knowing there is never judgment just support!

More about me

When I am not working, you can find me most of the time being a mom and chasing my daughters around! I enjoy getting an opportunity to be a kid and see the world through their eyes. I love spending time with my family, traveling when I can, and grounding myself through energy based activities (spirit cards, energy healing, crystals) and all forms of holistic healing.
