Who Am I?

Hello! I am Anita Murad (Uh-Need-Ah Ma-Rod)! My pronouns are she/her/hers & I am a cisgender Pakistani/American female. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and I work with teenagers and adults who are seeking out therapy to get support with or process any challenging aspect of their life! My hope as your therapist is that I can create a non-judgmental space for you to talk through and share your experiences, stressors and feelings.

I love working with:

  • People exploring therapy for the first time
  • People with chronic illnesses or those adjusting to new life circumstances/new medical equipment
  • Caregivers of family members/loved ones who have medical diagnoses and/or mental health diagnoses
  • Those experiencing general life stressors who are seeking support to get through their day to day
  • First responders, healthcare workers or people experiencing compassion fatigue/vicarious trauma
  • Those experiencing grief & loss
  • Working with teens who are exploring their identities, learning emotional regulation, navigating stressors and watching them grow over time!

Some of my favorite approaches include:

  • Talking it out, noticing patterns and how and where to intervene
  • Solution focused therapy
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy
  • Reading books/doing workbooks together to explore new ways of thinking about situations and the most helpful behaviors/interventions to use in times of stress.

HOW I HELP

I want our relationship to be genuine, honest and open. I’d like to learn more about the experiences that have made you into the person you are and work together to develop a plan to help you to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. My hope is that therapy can be a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings, ask questions and process pain.

I believe...

  • Small changes can make a huge impact
  • The only way out is through
  • Mental health IS health
  • We can do hard things
  • Everyone can benefit from therapy

What it’s like in a session with me/ What a typical session is like

I want you to bring your true and authentic self to therapy, so please come as you are, whatever that looks like for you! Our therapy sessions will be personalized to you and what you specifically need during therapy. This might look like using fidgets during therapy, drawing/writing things down, learning skills from workbooks, or being completely spontaneous! My hope is that we can develop a relationship where I can hold you accountable and challenge you in ways that feel comfortable for you to help you reach your goals. Don’t be surprised if I am actively working on finishing three drinks during our session (coffee, water, and diet coke, obviously) and have three layers on and one extra sweater hanging somewhere just in case.

More about me

When I’m not at work, I’m likely obsessing over my animals, volunteering for one of many animal rescues or thrifting! I love a good Netflix binge on the couch, a concert, an adventure with my pups, and a meal with friends or family.
