Working with kids and teens can be some of the most rewarding work we do as therapists. They have a special type of energy, insight and curiosity that makes them shine. It’s also really hard work sometimes!
In this workshop we are going to explore the principles, techniques, and applications of using play as a therapeutic tool for clients. Julia Jordan-Lake will help us understand why play is an essential tool for child and adolescent therapy and guide us through practical strategies for using directive and non-directive methods of play in the therapy room. We will explore the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for children and adolescents to express themselves through play, and identify some ethical and cultural considerations. You will be able to identify strategies to integrate play therapy techniques into broader therapeutic practices for all clients regardless of age.
Objectives Include:
Building confidence in using play as a therapeutic modality
Exploring challenges and barriers when working with kids and teens
Developing strategies for cultivating connection, initial assessment and ongoing treatment through the use of play
