Who Am I?

Hello all, my name is Elijah (He/Him).

First and foremost, I am honored at the potential to be your therapist. As your therapist, I promise to work as hard as I can to ensure that anyone who crosses my path will understand that they are the experts of their own lives and therefore, already contain all the tools needed for success. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who may struggle with their identity, which direction to go next, couples who are seeking relationship advice, and/or anyone who may just want someone to listen to them. No matter the reason, I am here for you.

I’ve wanted to be a therapist since high school and devoted the last 8 or 9 years of my life to helping others. With that said, I do not (and will not) take want you are entrusting me with for granted. Everyone starts somewhere and I (could be biased) believe that pursuing therapy is a great step not only to understanding who you are, but to becoming who you are meant to be! If you would allow me, I would love to ride alongside you on this ride called emotional rollercoaster. Where by yourself, it may seem impossible, but together, now that’s when the seemingly impossible becomes possible.

I love working with:

  • Adolescence
  • Young adults
  • Adults
  • Couples

Some of my favorite approaches include:

  • CBT
  • Narrative therapy
  • Strength-based approaches
  • Talk Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

HOW I HELP

I believe that I can help because I am determined/dedicated to see my clients succeed. A big part of understanding that you are the experts of your own life, your input needs to be at the forefront of my work. What that may look like is you being involved with the kind of therapeutic approach used, collaborative note taking, periodically checking in to see how the therapy is working for you, etc. My goal is to get you involved with as much of the therapy as possible because I have found through personal experience that the more someone engages with therapy equals the more they will get out of therapy.

What it’s like in a session with me

At first, the focus is building rapport (working relationship), so I will engage in regular conversation (just like I would if I saw you walking down the street or at the store). With the purpose of getting to know you, alongside you getting to know myself. As the sessions continue, I will gradually introduce various topics related to mental health (based on your input of course). I am an expressive/involved type of person, so I talk a lot with my hands and potentially will get up out of my chair to act out what I am describing. I also love to joke around, so please do not hesitate to bust out a joke once or twice (as they say laughter is the best medicine).

More about me

When I’m not officially on the clock (because being a therapist for others is never truly over), I like to unwind with a few things I enjoy. For example, I spend a lot of my time at the gym because it helps me mentally, spiritually, and physically. I also would classify myself as a gamer because I enjoy getting lost in a fantasy world from time to time. Last (but the most important, I love spending time with my church and God because without him, I wouldn’t be in this position, so (in my opinion) all the glory goes to him.
