Hello! I am Javon Billingsley
I am a therapist who works with children, teens, and adults. I find so much enjoyment in hearing the human experience through the clients I work with, and I look forward to exploring that with you. We all have unique experiences, and each of us responds to those experiences in different ways.
As a multiracial person, I understand the push and pull of life, and I bring that perspective into my practice. Together, we can take the time to break things down and better understand where you are, what your experiences come from, and how to use that understanding to create growth.
I can never fully understand the clients I work with, and acknowledging that helps us begin the process together with openness and curiosity. You are the expert on your life; I simply come along
for the ride, offering guidance and direction along the way.
I utilize approaches such as CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing to identify unhelpful thought patterns, understand how they affect your life, and challenge them to create a more helpful thought process. I am a very conversational person, so the aspects of these approaches often mix-and-match, creating a unique therapeutic experience for each and every one of my clients.
I really just want to create a space where ideas, thoughts, grievances, etc. are welcomed and encouraged. The uncertainty you may hold in your relationship, the frustration you feel with your boss, or even the frustration you hold within yourself are topics that may arise. When these things pop up, what do we do? We place them on the table and we examine them. Why do I feel this way? Why did I react this way? What did they do wrong? What did I do wrong? We will paint a picture (figuratively or literally) and problem solve. My role in this process is to simply provide the tools and skills for you to figure it out. I will also play the role of devil’s advocate to really get deep and provide perspective that may be in the shadows. When working with me, expect a dance.
I like to get to know someone before we really dive in. Expect an energy similar to chatting with that one friend who truly listens to you (and if that isn’t an energy you’ve experienced before, then expect to receive it here). We’ll crack jokes, talk about things that interest you, and really level with each other.
At the same time, we’ll also go deep and get passionate about the things that matter. The space I try to create reflects the complexity of people—the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. It’s meant to be a mentally colorful place, full of emotion, thought, and honesty.
I am an identical twin believe it or not. I enjoy creating music, annoying my friends, and providing solace for the people I appreciate. Selfishly, therapy is a very mentally stimulating job for me, so I get a lot of enjoyment out of hearing and working with a plethora of different people with different perspectives and experiences. I’d say I am a part of new age therapists fighting against new issues and I really thrive in trying to understand these issues. Honestly, I just love the work that I do and the people I work for and with.
