Who Am I?
Hello all, I’m Elijah (he/him). I’m honored at the chance to be your therapist, and my goal is for you to understand that you’re the expert of your own life, so you already contain the tools you need for success. Together we can explore the barriers in your way and find the support to unlock them. I’ve wanted to be a therapist since high school, and I don’t take what you’re entrusting me with for granted. I believe therapy is a great step not only to understanding who you are, but to becoming who you’re meant to be. By yourself it may feel impossible, but together the seemingly impossible becomes possible.
I specialize in working with:
- Adolescents and young adults building their identities
- Couples and families
- Anyone seeking support with anger management and emotional regulation
- Clients bringing multicultural identities to the therapy space
- People seeking support with self-harm and difficult emotions
How I help
I’m determined to see my clients succeed, and because you’re the expert of your own life, your input stays at the forefront of our work. That can look like you helping choose the therapeutic approach, taking notes collaboratively, and building a joint treatment plan so we’re meeting your personal milestones. My goal is to get you as involved as possible, because the more you engage with therapy, the more you get out of it. I pull from CBT and DBT and incorporate Narrative therapy, strengths-based work, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I often help people with anger and emotional regulation and support for couples and families.
What a session with me is like
I lead with building our relationship. For the real work to begin, you need to get to know me as much as I need to learn about you. As sessions continue, I’ll gradually move toward building up your supports and looking at how you want to grow. I’m expressive and involved, so I talk a lot with my hands and might get up out of my chair to act something out. I also love to joke around, so don’t hesitate to bust out a joke, because laughter is good medicine.
What I believe
I believe that a therapist is only as good as their client, which to me means that in order to get the most out of therapy as a client and as a therapist is to collaboratively work together. Two hands are better than one!
A little more about me
When I’m not on the clock, I unwind at the gym, which helps me mentally, spiritually, and physically. I’d also call myself a gamer, since I enjoy getting lost in a fantasy world now and then. Most important to me is spending time with my church and my faith, which I credit for where I am today.
