GET TO KNOW DANA

“It is never too late or too soon. It is when it is supposed to be.”―Mitch Albom

Dana Rivera, LCPC

Hi! My name is Dana Rivera and I am a clinical therapist at Urban Wellness. I like to think of myself as a skill builderinsight facilitator, and personal guide through life’s transitions. I encourage clients to focus on establishing goals towards creating change and personal growth  in their lives. Together we will explore where you currently are in your life, identify the roads we will need to take to get started, and begin the journey to get you to where you want to be!

SKILL BUILDER

We all currently have many skills we have acquired throughout our lives. Dependent upon when and how they were acquired they may no longer be as useful as they once were. This is where I come in! I encourage my clients to examine the ways in which they have been coping in their lives and identify what works and does not. Together, we will look over your likes/dislikes and strengths/weakness to begin developing a new set of coping skills to help you obtain the relief, peace of mind, and skill set you are hoping for.

INSIGHT FACILITATOR

I am a huge believer that knowledge is power. Sometimes, life moves so quickly, we do not know if we are coming or going. As your personal insight facilitator, I will help you to gain a better understanding of YOU. Through self awareness, we will uncover your strengths, weakness, hopes, dreams, fears, and so much more. With this knowledge, you will have gained a level of understanding that may have not been present before. Once we understand why we feel/think/act the way we do; we have a clearer picture which makes it easier to more accurately identify the change that we want to make.

PERSONAL GUIDE THROUGH LIFE TRANSITIONS

“The moment in between what you once were, and who you are now becoming, is where the dance of life really takes place.”- Barbara De Angelis This quote really sums up the transitions of life to me. Life’s  transitions at times can be scary, nerve wracking, filled with sadness or anger of what once used to be, or just create a level of uncertainty within ourselves. Well you can count on me! As your own personal guide, I will  be here to listen empathetically to your specific life transition, provide you with the support you to become who you want to be or get where you want to go, and help you overcome any obstacles that may stand in your way.

HOW I HELP

In sessions, I hope to create a comforting, safe, and accepting environment where my clients feel free to explore and share their stories and struggles. Seeing each client as a unique individual, I choose to use a holistic approach when working with my clients, in addition to many cognitive behavioral techniques. I work with children as young as 5 years old; particularly whom are struggling with transitions or behavioral difficulties. I enjoy working with parents to help gain a better understanding of their parenting styles, struggles, and understanding their children’s behaviors. I also really love working with teens and young adults; as this is sometimes a complicated state of our life. This time of our life is often a time of exploring ‘Who am I?’ I am eager to assist those on this journey. I additionally work with adults; many who struggle with anxiety and depressive symptoms but also grief, self esteem, life transitions, and many other issues.

MORE ABOUT ME

When I am not working, you can find me most of my time being a mom and chasing my daughter(s) around. I enjoy getting an opportunity to be a kid and see the world through their eyes. I love spending time with family, traveling (when I can), and organizing anything! Organization is something I enjoy doing to relax! My secret hobbies are writing and illustrating stories for children and doing crafts. I love all forms of holistic healing and hope to travel to more National Parks to continue to see all the natural beauty the world has to offer.
