ABOUT ME:

Hi there! I’m Rachel, a therapist in Old Irving Park who works with Young Adults and Adults.

“Wisdom and freedom require the ability to allow the natural flow of emotions to come and go, experiencing emotions and not being controlled by them.” ― Marsha M. Linehan

At a glance

Best fit for: I primarily work with Young Adults (18+) and Adults looking to work through shame, identity formation and changes, boundary setting, past and current trauma, emotional dysregulation & building distress tolerance, and cultivating self compassion. I enjoy working with those navigating depression, anxiety, chronic suicidal ideation, (C)PTSD, and personality disorders.

Approaches: We will work together to find a style of therapy that works for you. I incorporate skills building from DBT, ACT, & CBT, while also using Relational, Psychodynamic, and Somatic therapies.

Who Am I?

Welcome! I’m Rachel, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I lead with curiosity and compassion in our work together. I am a warm and honest therapist and person who will work with you on building insight and supporting yourself while moving towards your goals. I mainly work with Young Adults 18+ and Adults. If you are stepping down from a hospitalization, PHP, or IOP level of care, I am here to help support you.

I specialize in working with:
  • LGBTQAI+ folks
  • Those navigating strong emotions
  • Those seeking identity exploration
  • Creative folks
  • Those who have experienced childhood wounds/trauma
  • Those who struggle with perfectionism or setting boundaries
  • Those interested in exploring somatic/body based therapies
  • Those interested in exploring parts work (IFS informed)
How I help

I have an eclectic and collaborative therapy style and encourage your feedback on what feels best for you. As a therapist, I utilize DBT, ACT, and CBT skills. I have a Psychodynamic focus where we can explore how your family and past have shaped you. I keep a Relational lens, as I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is extremely powerful. I also enjoy treating trauma with somatic therapies (SP) and parts work (IFS). I incorporate expressive arts therapy and self compassion work when applicable.

What a session with me is like

Therapy with me is a soft place to land. My strengths lie in attuning to your needs and I will check in often to track how you are feeling in session while we explore your inner world and relationships. I bring a bit of structure to the session, while also letting you take the lead. I encourage self reflection in between sessions in order to see what we may need to come back to and explore more. We will identify patterns together as we build a relationship that helps you feel seen, heard, supported, and empowered.

What I believe

I believe that therapy is deeply relational and has the capacity to be incredibly transformative. There is magic in the therapeutic relationship and I’m honored to collaborate with folks who are interested in working together. I believe that by learning more about yourself and practicing skills to emotionally regulate and tolerate distress, you can more holistically heal and engage effectively in your life and relationships.

A little more about me

Outside of my role as a therapist, I enjoy collecting tiny beautiful things (rocks/crystals/little antiques), walking along Lake MI, laughing, singing, dancing, cooking, caring for my many houseplants, and taking photos of nature. I adore spending time with my spicy black cat and my loved ones.
