Who Am I?

Hello! I’m Nick! I’m a licensed family therapist and creative soul.

I love working with:

I specialize in all things that have to do with relationships. So that means couples from all walks of love, families of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds, and also individuals that are impacted by the relationships in their lives. I also really enjoy working with artists that might be in the midst of a creative slump and need some inspiration to generate new ideas. Another concern I’m passionate about helping others process is climate change anxiety. And then lastly, if you feel stuck in life and need to rediscover what your values are and what kind of person you want to be, I’m here for ya.

Some of my favorite approaches include:

ACT, DBT, Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and just good old fashioned talk therapy.

When I work with couples and families I take a pretty structured approach at the beginning. That means establishing clear ground rules of how we act and communicate in the therapy room, building communication skills, and identifying small, obtainable goals to initiate change. As time goes along, I allow us some room to explore the primary issues on a deeper level.

For individual clients, I usually take on a very flexible approach depending on the personality of the client and what they best respond to in therapy. We can keep things open ended and simply explore until we discover something that needs adjusting. We can be structured and focus on development of skills. I can be a kind and firm motivator, an enthusiastic hype man, an affirming ally, and a compassionate observer.

I Believe…

  • I believe in the creative arts as a tool for healing and inspiration
  • I believe that you can create change in your life no matter what.
  • I believe therapy works best when both client and therapist have a positive energy between them.
  • I believe change is possible when you believe it to be possible.

What it’s like in a session with me

Usually I begin with casual small talk about how the day is going for each of us. I find this normalizes the process of therapy and makes it less business-like. But sometimes there are days when you need to hit the ground running, and I’m ready for those kinds of sessions whenever you need it. I also try to end each session by reminding ourselves what we learned that day and how you can use that between now and our next session.

More about me

I have two big passions right now: the creative arts and the outdoors. When in Chicago, I’m focused on photography, going to see independent, foregin films, and attending live theatre shows. Whenever I travel, I usually head west in search of mountains and forests. I’ve checked a lot of national parks off my list, but there’s always more to explore, so feel free to share with me where ya been!
