My name is June Martin Naureckas. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a degree in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling. I am a white, non-binary lesbian who uses they/them pronouns.
LGBTQ+ adolescents and emerging adults, couples trauma survivors of all ages, and people of all ages living with chronic and progressive illnesses.
In other words, I like to learn about different empirically supported counseling models and select specific methods or tools based on what works for each client!
I have experience working with patients seeking therapeutic care and support for trauma, chronic illness, and gender dysphoria. I want to collaborate with clients to find a definition of a happy, functional life that works with them.
I believe that the universe is very big and humans are very small, so we might as well be kind to each other. I believe that most people are fundamentally trying their best with the resources they currently have available to them. I practice Reform Judaism and believe in the principle of Tikkun Olam or Repairing the World: “It is not on you to finish the work of repair, but neither are you free to desist from it.”
The shape of a session with me will depend on the goals we set together. We might use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and narrative storytelling structures to process tough past or ongoing experiences. We might practice skills for withstanding overwhelming feelings of distress. We might draw or paint together in silence to explore ideas you aren’t yet ready to put into words. In all cases, I want our time together to be useful and restorative to you, even if it is sometimes hard or scary.
I love to rock climb, play D&D and board games with my friends, and argue with my girlfriend about the color of Lake Michigan. My favorite place in the world is the Shedd Aquarium’s sturgeon touch tank. My second favorite place in the world is coloring on the floor with my nephew and nieces. I became a counselor because I love speaking frankly with other human beings about true and difficult things. I am excited to meet you and begin our work together!

Land Acknowledgment: Urban Wellness acknowledges that the lands on which our practice resides with locations in Chicago and Forest Park, Illinois, are on occupied land, and was originally inhabited by Peoria, Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi), Myaamia, Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) peoples before their forced assimilation, labor, and removal from their ancestral lands. We recognize the Native peoples of these lands and invite all to consider supporting Indigenous communities and the fight for Indigenous racial justice.
