GET TO KNOW your therapist
Julie Feldman, LCSW
Hello, my name is Julie Feldman.
HOW I HELP
My efforts are geared to the support often required by our youth and their caregivers, in navigating the challenges that come with anxiety, depression, ADHD, developmental disabilities, grief and loss, or changes in the family system. I encourage families to work together to find strength in their own abilities and in self-advocacy. Prior to Urban Wellness, I worked for 10 years as a school social worker, and grew to understand the best ways to help families navigate the school system. While the education system can open doors to endless possibilities, I can also help you manage the potential barriers that you may face, beginning in pre-school and all the way through college.
I believe that all children and adolescents are capable of overcoming challenging events, symptoms, and beliefs when given tools to communicate, cope, and play. In therapy, my clients will learn how to identify and manage their emotions, create a tool box for long-term coping and mindfulness, as well as an improve their ability to interact with their peers, family members, and teachers.
All families have a story to tell and experiences to share. Each and every member of a child’s family are a crucial part of their growth as individuals, and when the situations arise, in the healing and maturation process. My job is to listen to your story and help you uncover positive ways to move forward, so you are able to use learned therapeutic processes outside the office and in your home, school, and community. As your family/child’s story changes over the course of therapy, so will the process and goals.
Therapy works best when hope and joy is found in the process of storytelling and learning. I will guide you/your child through their own journey of problem-solving, adjustment, and understanding – using techniques such as cognitive reframing, mindfulness and meditation, psychoeducation, role-play, journaling, and art.
MORE ABOUT ME
Outside of the office, I can often be found running or biking along the lake, playing with my puppy, or exploring the Chicago restaurant scene with family and friends! I love to travel; both close to home and all over the world! You will always find me with a coffee in hand and new recipe in mind to try out!
