GET TO KNOW your therapist

Julia jordan-lake, LPC

Hi! I’m Julia.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about partnering with caregivers in working with unlocking the strengths of their holistic child. I work with both children and adolescents through the framework of play therapy, as well as a play-based form of CBT, depending on the developmental level of my client and the needs of the family. I specialize in working with anxiety, ADHD, depression, autistic children/teens, LGBTQ+ children/teens, as well as managing self-esteem and identity factors related to neurodevelopmental differences.

Toys are children’s words and play is their language

My therapeutic approach centers on the idea that your child/teen is not a problem to be fixed, but a human being attempting to get their needs met with  current limitations in the expression of their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. A child’s behavior offers us clues towards uncovering and discovering better tools to co-regulate (connect with caregiver), as well as self-regulate (independently self-soothe).

  • My hope is that through our work together, you and your child/teen will experience a collaborative and safe space to learn and grow together. I value neurodiversity, caregiver/child work, and collaboration with other providers in the life of your child/teen (doctors, psychiatrists, teachers, other therapists, etc.)

When I am not playing (read: at work!) in the office, I can be found reading in a coffee shop or on a trail out in a forest preserve!
