Who Am I?

Hi! I am Gabriela Flores, but you can call me Gabi!

I am a queer, bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes in the importance of quality and accessible mental health services. I truly enjoy my job and I am hopeful I can guide you into learning a little more about yourself. Let us delve deep into learning how to challenge beliefs that were taught to us from an early age. Are there patterns that are being repeated that you would like to change? Let’s talk about oppressive systems and how intergenerational trauma continues seeping into your relationships. Let’s heal and learn who you are outside of the trauma you have experienced. I know it can be scary and challenging, but together we can figure it out one step at a time.

Hola! Mi nombre es Gabi, soy una terapista Bilingue, de padres inmigrantes que cree en la importancia de la salud mental y la accesibilidad para estos servicios. Trabajo con adultos y jovenes que quisieran tener su propio espacio y recibir apoyo para enfrentar varias adversidades de la vida. En tu terapia conmigo espero y puedas conocerte un poquito mas. Puede que empieces a preguntarte preguntas que nunca antes te habias hecho. Durante nuestro tiempo
puedes aprender a reconocer patrones generacionales y como afectan tus pensamientos y relaciones. Podemos aprender y aplicar nuevas tecnicas para manejar depresion, ansiedad, u otras dificultades que te impiden sentirte plena/o. Venir a terapia puede ser dificil, pero mi meta es que te sientas comoda/o para poder navegar estas dificultades. Sinceramente creo en tu potencial y estoy aqui para apoyarte y escucharte.

HOW I HELP

I believe that therapy is not a one size fits all and we will work together on identifying the best treatment approach for you. However, there are times that approaches like DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, and many other modalities will be applied. I want your therapy to be specific for your needs and be trauma responsive.

First, let’s remember that the relationship you and I create will be the most important and strongest skill for our work together. I want to make sure that you feel safe during our time together so you can process anything that is making it difficult for you to feel at your best. From my side, I will do this by being attentive, non-judgmental, and encouraging you to freely express yourself. There are times therapy may seem challenging, as it can bring up painful memories or require you to challenge outdated ways of being, but together we will navigate this.

What it’s like in a session with me

A session with me is very much your time. Whether that means you lay on the couch, sit, whatever it takes to get you to feel comfortable. There are times we will laugh, or at least, I hope to get a laugh out of you at times! Ha! There may be times when Spanish slips off from me so you may learn a few new words! At times therapy may feel intense, and sometimes you will not even realize this was a therapy session! As long as you are comfortable and safe that is what matters to me the most so you can continue working with me.

More about me

Besides being a therapist full-time, I do try to have a life outside of work! Practice what we preach huh? I volunteer in Pilsen providing Reiki (energy healing) to members of the community. I facilitate holistic grief circles, I enjoy trying new restaurants, hiking with my partner, and buying toys for our goldendoodle Bailey. I enjoy traveling, dancing, laughing, and nature. Currently looking for a new hobby, maybe you can give me some suggestions! I hope to meet you soon!
