Who Am I?

Hi! My name’s Erica Bobish, I am a White, cisgender, woman and use she/her pronouns. I’m bilingual in English and Spanish and do some of my best work with teens and adults. If you’re familiar with the Enneagram, I’m a 2w3, which basically means I have “resting therapist personality” and am always in a helping mindset (which also means I’ve had to do a lot of intentional work to learn boundaries!) I firmly believe in safe, accessible, personalized, mental healthcare and work to be an ally and an advocate in both my personal and professional life.

I love working with:

Teens, young adults, and adults. My favorite work tends to be around navigating transitions and identity building, as well as working with folks who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and difficulty with adjustments. This usually shows up with break ups, graduation, moving cities, and (let’s be honest) being in your 20’s. I also am passionate about working with folks in the Latinx and LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as folks who are trying therapy for the first time!

Some of my favorite approaches include:

I’ll usually start with conversational talk therapy and CBT, and see what fits your needs and where you’re at in your therapeutic journey and in life. From there, I like to bring in what interests you: art therapy (yes, like coloring and drawing!), writing, meditation, physical movement, mood boards / vision boards, you name it. If you’re open to it, I’ll give you “homework”, which might look like coming up with an affirmation or mantra for the week, exploring a reflective question, or spending time with a simple worksheet. I want to give you the resources you need to thrive!

HOW I HELP

I work to help you be more able to identify your needs and build confidence around decision making and trusting your intuition. Everyone starts from a different place, and I want to learn about your journey to where you are and what has gotten you here. We’ll work together to set goals that feel realistic to you, and we’ll check in to see how that’s going from time to time, and throughout our time together we will add tools to your theoretical tool box. Because of my personal approach, I want you to be comfortable to voice your opinions and thoughts, and even push back or challenge me. You are the person who knows yourself best, and I’m here to help guide and provide insights alongside you.

What it’s like in a session with me

I show up as a human and your equal, first and foremost, so sessions usually include chatting and laughing. This makes you the expert on your experiences and emotions, and me the guide who helps explore and understand them more. I strive to create a space that feels comfortable, emotionally and physically, so if you need to kick off your shoes or bring a snack and a coffee, I am so here for it! If we meet in the office, I usually keep fidget toys, play doh, and coloring pages on hand that you can use, which sometimes helps us to focus (or just allow our brain to wander a bit more freely) and if we meet virtually, you’re bound to see my cat stroll through or hear her voice an opinion or two.

More about me

When I take my therapist hat off, I’m usually reading, picking up a creative hyperfixation activity (currently cross stitch and embroidery), exploring the coffee shops of Chicago, or spending time with friends and my partner. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, so finding strategies and organization techniques for a neurodiverse brain has become a bit of a passion of mine. I am also a proud mom to a very vocal cat (Electric Slide) who will likely make appearances in sessions, as well as a host of plants. I believe in constantly learning, growing, and challenging myself, and love to see others doing the same. I can’t wait to get to know you!
