Who Am I?

I am a therapist that works with adolescents, young adults, and adults. I want you to know that whatever lead you to seek a therapist, you are not alone and if you have not heard it from someone yet let me say, “I believe in you”. When we are in session you are the most important person and I am interested in learning about everything you have to share, so bring your authentic self. My hope is that through our work together you are able to feel balanced, empowered, happier, and have a better understanding of your mental health. I am a first-generation Latino man and I am also part of the blind community, which just means I am an even better listener! I hope to have the opportunity to be of support to you.

I love working with:

  • Adolescents who need support with low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression
  • Young adults dealing with life’s transitions and finding their place in the world.
  • People experiencing multicultural issues.
  • People experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one.
  • People experiencing grief due to adjusting to an acquired disability, such as vision loss.
  • Adults doing their best to get through this journey called life
  • Couples seeking support in their relationship

Some of my favorite approaches include:

CBT, shadow work/exploring shame, Gottman, just talking things out, exploring boundaries, exploring the way one’s behaviors and values line up, positive psychology, and solution focused therapy. Being that therapy is not a one fits all kind of thing, together we will find what works best for you to help you achieve the goals you want to accomplish in therapy.

HOW I HELP

I provide a safe and comfortable space where your authentic self is always welcomed, and just like you, I will bring my authentic self so you can expect storytelling and laughter. I am a natural motivator and once I am invested in you, I will continue to support you and trust that you find the courage and strength to believe in yourself and your ability to change/heal. I believe it is important to have self-compassion. That rather than judging, criticizing, or shaming yourself when you make a mistake or fall off your path of change, you meet it with a level of self-compassion. Recognizing that you have the ability and resiliency to get back on the positive path that will lead you to the best version of yourself. I believe healing is possible through different means and am open to incorporating creativity in our sessions. Yes, we can use CBT, some solution-focused therapy, some shadow work or just talk it out. And yes, we can also use music, a book, or a poem in your journey, as long as it is something you feel comfortable exploring and most importantly that it works for you.

What it’s like in a session with me

I want you to feel comfortable and know that across from you there is a person who genuinely wants the best for you. I truly mean it when I say that I am interested in all that you have to share. I want to hear about your culture, hobbies, shows you enjoy, friendships you have, the music you like, and all that interests you and is part of your identity. To know how to best support you, I want to understand what role these different things play in your life, and what strengths we can pull from these things you value and enjoy that can help you achieve your goals. We will let things flow naturally by having a good balance of laughter and challenging conversations in our sessions and allow those therapeutic moments to occur at their own time. Whether I am responding to something you shared or asking a thought-provoking question I will always approach things in a way that you feel supported.

More about me

I visit Mexico at least once a year as I am very close with my family there and it is always refreshing to get away from the city. I like to be active and I play an intense adaptive sport called goalball. If I’m not on a flight somewhere, socializing with friends, or spending time with my family, you can find me reading a good book, engaging in creative writing, watching a show or documentary, singing in my room, or from time to time picking up my guitar in hopes that one day I will master it!
