Hi, I’m Christy Vargas! I’m a clinical therapist, but you might also call me a self-care/self-love advocate working towards eliminating the stigma of mental illness. I support people who long to feel emotionally safe and secure but are buried under mental obstacles. I guide them to commit to their journey of self-love, so that they can live their full potential and be the best version of themselves that they can be. I know from my own path to wellness and from being blessed with this profession, that investing in mental health and wellness is so worth it and that you deserve to be happy. As a first generation Asian American woman, my hope is that my personal and professional identities, as well as my experiences, help people feel less alone and empowered.
Together, we can work as a team throughout your healing journey. Being a therapist is my passion because I believe that prioritizing self-care and self-love will change the world. I want to empower and guide you in being the best version of yourself in any way you would like that to look for you. I know that you have the potential and power to make a positive impact in the world and am happy to support you in doing so!
Play therapy, art therapy, and other expressive therapies, eclectic person-centered and strengths-based approach, narrative therapy, DBT, CBT, talk therapy, exploring ways to set healthy boundaries, and exploring attachment styles and relationships…all with some humor sprinkled in!
The relationship between us is going to be the strongest tool we have. I believe that you have the power and strength to grow and change from within. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your fears and worries. I trust that our relationship will help you stay accountable to your own goals. Your most authentic self is what I ask of you and I know it can take some time to get there, that’s okay. I am invested in you and as you commit to your own growth, you will learn tools to overcome obstacles. The goal isn’t that hard things won’t happen, but that when they do, you have the skills to work through them. You are not defined by what brings you into counseling and together we can help you be the best you.
As your therapist, I genuinely believe that the trust and rapport that we build definitely is integral in your mental health and wellness journey. My hope is that you are able to be your true self within our sessions, so that you can live authentically in your daily life as well. Being yourself in therapy consists of making sure you are comfortable physically and emotionally. Whether that means taking your shoes off, sitting criss-cross applesauce on the couch, drawing while you tell me about your loved ones, or fidgeting with toys while we laugh and process the stressors of life together, my goal is for you to feel safe and cozy in session. I will laugh with you, empathize with you, and work alongside you as your mental health cheerleader to help you survive and thrive in this silly little thing called life.
When I am not working, I love hanging out with my family and friends, playing board games, going to Zumba classes (or even playing Just Dance or dancing around in my room), cuddling with my cats, and trying my best not to trip when playing pickleball (I do not have an athletic bone in my body, but I love trying new things even when I am not the best at it). I love rewatching TV shows and movies because it gives me a sense of predictability in our unpredictable world. My comfort TV show is Friends, especially because I have bonded so much over it with two of my close friends and we have even won Friends trivia a couple of times. I’ve been told many times that I should probably make up my own Friends trivia questions by now! Most importantly, I often laugh at myself (lovingly) and try not to take myself too seriously. My personal mantra is “no bad days, just bad moments” because on really hard days, I try my best to remind myself that there is at least one good moment in that day, no matter how small.
My most ideal day is when I am just hanging out and laughing with the amazing humans in my support system. Oh, and of course, the best day has to include cuddling and playing with my cats, Max and Milo.
I am SO excited that you are prioritizing your healing journey and would love to meet you!
