Hello! My name is Theodora (but you can call me Teddy) and I am a clinical social worker who works with children, teens, and young adults who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, or traumatic experiences. Whether you are experiencing crisis in your life, or working to manage lifelong struggles, my hope is that I can provide the support you need to thrive. My hope for each client is that our therapeutic relationship becomes the vessel through which they can enact change and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. My role as a therapist is to be a non-judgmental listener, an insight-builder, and a strength-finder.

NON-JUDGEMENTAL LISTENER

Often times, there can be some stigma associated with coming to see a therapist. And, let’s face it, it can be just a little awkward to sit down with a total stranger and talk about some pretty some personal subject matter. On a personal and professional level, I understand that there may be some hesitation to really open up for all of those reasons, including being judged by another individual. I work to ensure that judgment and critique is put aside in our work together. I’m there to accept you and accept what you’re struggling with.

INSIGHT BUILDER

When we’re at a point or crisis or distress in our lives, it can be difficult to step outside and see the situation from a different perspective. That’s where I come in. While I am no expert on your life and your struggles, my role is to help you process your feelings and experiences in ways that bring about greater insight and understanding. Fostering insight and understanding into the “whys” behind our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors ultimately brings about change, and I’m here to collaborate with you on that journey.

STRENGTH FINDER

We’ve all probably taken quizzes at work or at school that are designed to find our “strengths.” Sometimes they might be really helpful, sometimes not so much. As your therapist, my goal is to not just tell you what your strengths are, but collaborate with you to help you realize your potential, build your confidence, and ultimately assist you in building the skills necessary to achieve your goals.

HOW I HELP

As with most things, effective therapy doesn’t have a “one size fits all” approach that works for everyone. I pride myself on adapting to the needs of my clients and their therapeutic goals. I believe that each client comes into therapy with unique and complex challenges, and I draw from several different modalities to tailor treatment to the individual. I draw particularly from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when addressing depression and anxiety, and utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to assist individuals in practicing more awareness and mindfulness in order to minimize emotional distress. I utilize narrative therapy when assisting individuals to develop their understanding of their experiences as part of their larger story when addressing trauma. In using any treatment modality, my goal is to assist you in building an understanding of yourself and assist you in building skills necessary to make sense of your emotions and experiences.

When I’m “off-the-clock”, you can probably find me reading, getting wrapped up in a new show on Netflix, and spending time with my cats and husband. I love cooking, traveling, and just diving into the world around me.
