As therapists we often have clients who, during the course of therapy, become parents.  It might be planned or unexpected, a joyful transition or a struggle (or both!).  Becoming a parent can impact clients in every part of their lives, including social, emotional, school/workplace, relationships and physical health. It is essential that we cultivate an understanding of how best to support our clients as they navigate these changes, and build our awareness of how to continue supporting clients when we can and when to refer out for specialist support.

Join us for an all-day intensive training that will give you the tools to feel confident engaging with clients who are experiencing perinatal mental health struggles, difficulty adjusting to being a new parent, or complicated emotional experiences around this major life transition.

9:30-11:30 Recognizing, Assessing, Supporting or Referring: When a Baby Shows up in the Therapy Room

11:30-12:30 Lunch Break (on your own)

12:30-2:30 Tools for Engaging with New Parents: Normalizing, Resource-Mapping, Identity Work

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively support clients who may start therapy for one reason, but becoming a parent brings a new perspective.
