GET TO KNOW BONNIE
“A year from now you may wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb
Bonnie Trainor, LCSW
Hi – I am Bonnie. No, I am not married to Clyde. I am a therapist that works with adolescents and adults who are experiencing struggles within their relationships and daily lives. I like to think of myself as a grief specialist, adoption advocate, faith builder, and life un-tangler.
Grief is a very complicated and unique experience for each of us. When experiencing grief, it can feel as if no one understands. Life can feel very unfair. I believe that it is through connection that we can heal. Together, I work with clients to process the pain, anger, and identify ways to honor loved ones. Whether experiencing sorrow after losing a loved one, relationship loss, pregnancy loss, infertility or post abortion – it is possible to enjoy life again.
I have a particular love for supporting adolescents from homes built through adoption as well as their families. I have experience working with all parts of the adoption circle, including birth parents, adopted children and adoptive parents. In my work with adopted children and adolescents, I strive to help make sense of their identity while coping with feelings of loss, depression and anxiety. Together I work with parents to strengthen family relationships and learn new and effective ways of communicating, understanding and connecting with their children and teens.
We are all in a different place in our own spiritual journey. I help clients looking for a deeper understanding of their true self and the meaning of life. I come alongside clients from all backgrounds and belief systems to look into who they are in the deepest sense.
Let’s face it – life is incredibly complicated. I work with clients to look at the overall picture and create a “plan of life.” I believe clear and achievable goals will lead to success. Together, I work with clients to untie the “knots” that get in the way of achieving happiness.
HOW I HELP
My approach to therapy is integrative, strengths-based, and tailored to fit the specific goals and needs of my clients. I aim to create a safe space for clients to share their concerns, thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement. I believe that in this safe place, clients can begin to examine their lives and move towards a deeper level of self-awareness. Through this process, clients can begin to develop ways to change unhealthy behaviors and develop new patterns in thinking.
I am trained to work with clients experiencing issues before and after the birth of a baby. I have a certificate in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International.
MORE ABOUT ME
Outside of Urban Wellness, you will find me spending time with my family and traveling. My most recent adventure included taking my baby to Europe where she was kissed by the Pope. I like shopping (although mostly online these days) and I love to find a good bargain.
